AMERICAN SLAVERY, Civil war and freedom
The American civil war began with the issues of black slavery.
The North wanted to prevent the expansion of slavery into territories in the West that had not yet become states. The South wanted no prohibition on where slavery could exist. The American Civil War was fought between two forces (North states VS. Southern states). The Civil war happened from 1861 till 1865. The Northern state had much more money and soldiers, making the south surrender and secede, Making the Northern states and the southern state unite making it the united states. The Northern state got what they wanted and so those who had been slaves were freed. Some continued working for their former owners, others wanted to move around. 'If I don't move, I'll never know I'm free' one woman said when she turned down a good job cooking for her former owner. The black population of Atlanta rose from 20 percent before the Civil War to 46 percent by 1870. Most were women who got jobs as laundresses, frequently working in their own homes where they could watch their children while making some money. Although they were being set free, racism was not over. The blacks and the whites had separate areas, toilets,, bars, shops, etc. When ever blacks entered buses with white people, the blacks either had to stand or sit in the back. A group called the Ku Klux Klan formed a little after the civil war. The Ku Klux Klan wore white robes and white coned shaped hoods as a group.

The Ku Klux Klan went out and killed lots of black people, by burning, shooting, stabbing etc.
but the blacks lived better than they did. Some of the whites did not like the blacks being set free and their were some major issues from bullying to murdering. 1963, and a bunch of civil rights activists finally rally, an Activist leader and protester gave his speech called "I have a dream". That Activist was Martin Luther King Jr. That one man changed the whole world. It changed the way the black and white people live in america. Soon the country was in peace.
